Alder Hey Childrens Hospital PFI
Laing O’Rourke appointed Chapel Consultants as Catering Design Consultants to assist them in developing the new Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool.
Chapel Consultants Project Director Jackie Snaith worked with LOR from inception through to construction on the various catering facilities. These included 7 ward production kitchens, a 150 seat staff & Visitors Restaurant and central stores complex.
Alder Hey is one of Europe’s busiest children’s hospitals – caring for over 275,000 young people and their families every year. Alder Hey is a sustainable hospital built entirely in a park which is something new in the treatment and care of children. It’s not just a first for the UK, there’s nothing like it anywhere in Europe.
The design embraces the principles of wellbeing and the importance of outdoor space. The majority of patients (75%) will be in single rooms rather than wards, each with a window that can be opened out into the park. Each floor also has an outdoor balcony overlooking the park
